A lot of you are probably wondering why I am calling myself "The Old Fart" and have a Homepage called "Welcome to Old Fart Productions" (See link under My Other Blogs and Goodies).

When I started in the field as a 35mm Film Projectionist some of the concession staff {at the last Cinema I worked in } weren't even born yet. In fact back in 2003 I was the oldest member of the staff at the age of 43. In true Ernest Hemingway form, instead of being "The Old Man and the Sea", I became "The Old Fart of the Theatre" to quote one Manager..

And as they say "The Rest Is History"

It's Been A Spell

It has been a spell since I've written anything down. Some of you have probably thought I left without a Goodbye. Others are probably wondering about Hector and the Rattlesnake.

It is a year ago that Haimish and Alexander and I were on that journey to a new start. Actually a year ago we were traveling in Northern Ontario, approaching the half way point. When I close my eyes and think back I can relive that trip. I can even relive part of the trip to Alberta in 1996.

I sometimes wonder if making the move East was really a smart thing to do. It is nice being around the family, one of the main reasons I moved, but there are no jobs here that pay well. I do like it here, compared to Calgary; Cambridge, Kitchener/Waterloo is just a nice a place to live. There just are no jobs to speak of. Oh there are lots of parttime jobs with low pay and no benefits but how does one live on that.

It was a really bad first 7 months in 2011. After losing a job that I really didn't want anyway {just took out of desperation to survive}, after this there was nothing except the Government Employment Insurance I was given which amounted to $800.00 a month. Then in April I got hired by a school bus company and had my C Licence {Drivers} upgraded to the B Licence {Something I already came with from Alberta} and got driving School Bus for about a couple of months then school was let out.

Foutunately a couple of weeks before school let out for the Summer I found a job on Kijiji for a driver's position. It was a job taking the Crew between the Eastbound and Westbound 401 McDonalds and Cambridge. The McDonalds are just east of Cambridge at Service Rest Centres along Highway 401, which runs from the Ontario/Quebec boundry to the Ontario/US Border at Windsor, Ont.

When I was hired for the position I was told the both Service Centres were closing down just after Labour Day. Thanks to the current Premiere and his ruling party {which by the way I hope I am here long enough to Vote Out come the Provincial Election in October}. I told the Manager I'd still like to come onboard so training started two weeks before school let out.

The job entails taking the Crew to work, then when at the store taking crew that started earlier home. The process starts all over again when the last Bairn is dropped of at their home and we begin to pick up more Bairns for the next shift start. There are two Vans running all the time and start in the Early Morning and finish up at Midnight. Oh ask me about all the Short Cuts in Cambridge {Galt, Hespeler and Preston}, I can tell you how to avoid the Delta at Rush Hour for one.

It is a fun job and I got to meet a lot of nice staff and I will miss taking my Bairns to work and to home. But things are on the upswing. Those of you who are friends on the Facebook {something else I have lost the desire to use} get snippets of what I am up too. The lads and I may actually be moving back West. What is the saying "Go West Old Fart". I am in talks with getting a job in Alberta. The company is in dire need of drivers they are hiring out of province drivers and will actually fly me out and back and whilst I am there working will put me up in the camps and feed me. It would be working 14 days on and having a week off. The money is more than what one could dream of.

For the time being I can fly back and forth between Ontario and Alberta, but eventually they want me to move back to Alberta and get my Alberta Drivers Licence. To be honest I miss the West, I miss the dry air {the humid July we had almost killed my Cats as well as me} I am not used to his Humid Air.

If I get the job and move back, there are going to be things I am going to miss here. Being close to the family, plus other things. I look back over that period from March to now and wonder how I survived. But we did and now it is only going to get better.

Can't promise how much I am going to be here, but hopefully I'll visit more than I did over the last few months.

Into Paradise......................May the Angels lead you.

God Bless

Well Bill I do hope all goes well for you. Are you happy about it? I sort of couldn't tell. Although more money and less humidity is a great plus!
I wish you all the best. Have you read what I've been up to lately? If not I think that you'll be surprised!
