A lot of you are probably wondering why I am calling myself "The Old Fart" and have a Homepage called "Welcome to Old Fart Productions" (See link under My Other Blogs and Goodies).

When I started in the field as a 35mm Film Projectionist some of the concession staff {at the last Cinema I worked in } weren't even born yet. In fact back in 2003 I was the oldest member of the staff at the age of 43. In true Ernest Hemingway form, instead of being "The Old Man and the Sea", I became "The Old Fart of the Theatre" to quote one Manager..

And as they say "The Rest Is History"

Succinctly Yours – A Microfiction Meme #1

Grandma, over at "Grandma's Goulash" has resurrected "Susan's" Microfiction Monday. It is now titled "Succinctly Yours – A Microfiction Meme". The rules are pretty much the same, but there are some wee changes. Instead of just concentrating on 140 characters, one can now use up to 140 words if they so want.

To Quote Grandma: "Succinctly Yours will open on Monday, but you can post at any time during the week. Hope you’ll join in.".

Here is my entry:

The raspberries shot at Walter Cronkite, the arguing of whether to watch the Ballet on PBS or the Midget Wrestling on Channel 9. John Wayne’s Movies on the late show. The arguments with anyone who didn’t see the way the owner did. And Sammy’s Visit. Oh the Memories, the list was endless.

The journeys that chair took and everything it saw or as some would have said, witnessed. For years it sat in the same spot, in front of the Floor Model Colour Television. Beside the End Table with the Remote close at hand.

It wasn’t the same now that Archie and Edith were gone from the house on Hauser Street. Gloria would make sure Daddy's Chair would have its rightful place in the Sunny Window in her Home. Mum’s chair, well it would soon be placed beside Daddy’s.

Words, 138.

Into Paradise......................May the Angels lead you.

God Bless

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE YARN YOU'VE SPUN! As soon as I read the first six words, my head made a lane change that had me actually seeing Archie "Bronx cheering" Walt from that chair, and then, oh, Oh, OH! The flood of incredible TV sitcom memories was wicked!(<--Which included both a favourite dingbat and a Meathead, of course!) The AITF theme song is still playing in my head!

Yep, All in the Family was great! And it spawned one of my all-time tops TV programs: Maude. (Remember? Maude Findlay aka Beatrice Arthur, was Edith's cousin. Man, did Archie ever get on Maude's last nerve! LOL! And who could forget her daughter, Carol Traynor? Cripes, she had some BIG "barbeaus," if you know what I mean. And then there's Finlay's catch phrase: "God'll getcha for that, Walter," which I wore out in the 70s, substituting a name to mmeet my needs, instead of Walter's. LOL!

Thanks, Bill, this has been a mighty fine ride on The Wayback Machine!

Sparkle ~ Yes, Maude one of the best shows on TV. But how can we forget the Jeffersons. George was the perfect foil to Archie. Glad you enjoyed.

Quilly ~ I am concerned as well, She isn't answering my email, or to my facebook, or leaving comments here. I do hope all is OK.

Izzy ~ Glad you enjoyed,

But you know everyone, since Quilly's comment I am wondering if we should be carrying on in Susan's Absence, Microfiction Monday's was her's. Hmmmmm.

Oh Susan, Where did you get to my Friend.

Not trying to make anyone feel old here...but I used to love sitting next to grandpa and watch All in the Family. He would laugh at Archie make jokes about people and the social problems of the time. Then it was Maude and on to the Jeffersons and then Soap with Billy Crystal...never did find out what happened to those people at the end ..did the sherriff get stabbed..did jodie make it out of the place...hmmm questions for the ages....great chair have one like it....zman sends

Bill;

I miss microfiction Monday and all my friends. Been a little under the weather but I'll be back and check this meme out.
Great yarn about the tattered chair. Love your stories!

First: tale nicely spun! I think Archie's actual chair ended up in the Smithsonian Museum, along with the Fonz' leather jacket. :)

As for Susan; I made contact! Finally. She's fine, just extremely busy. Seems this weekend was the opening at the TALA. How did I find out? I thought I'd made her angry with a silly comment I did on Facebook..turns out her Facebook account is "deactivated" for a while. So she's not mad at any of us...just trying to keep up! I did tell her she's greatly missed (as are the wee ones) ...and we promised me to really get in touch soon. :)

This was touching for me Bill. After mom passed, we had a difficult time deciding what to do with her chair. My son took it. It's still a bit difficult for me to see it there.
I did enjoy your micro-fiction!
Love Di ♥
