Our Susan over at "Stony River" hosts Microfiction Monday. I thought I'd give it a try and see if I can come up with something. The idea is to use Susan's picture she posts then compose a story up to and including characters, punctuation marks, etc adding up to 140. I believe you can use less but not more. Susan provided a "Convenient Link" {Everyone should have one in a Convenient Pocket} if you need help in attaining that magic number of 140. Whilst at Susan's visit all the other wonderful Entries in the game.

They all had to go to the Tallahatchie River to see for themselves after what Mrs Hartley said. They just couldn't believe what they heard.
Then She said;
"I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge" ~ "Today Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge".
Down at the Tallahatchie River, Lieutenant Columbo already knew that there were suspicious circumstances surrounding Billy Joe's suicide.

Sylvia ~ Glad you enjoyed, Good song, movie and TV show.
I sure do remember that song. Great idea !
Have a great week!
Peggy ~ Thanks, glad you found it fun. It is a good song, also like the movie. Columbo wasn't that bad either.
Or maybe not. Maybe it was made to look like suicide lol
Lady ~ This is what Columbo is thinking.
"Tallahatchie Bridge" references are perfect for this photo, Bill! It definitely gives a sense of mystery and sadness. Excellent!
If ever a photo needed a theme song, you found the perfect one!
Good week to you!
All three are great! And connected too.
I certainly remember the song, but I didn't know there was a movie.
Good work, Bill. I love the Columbo reference.

Have a great week. Cheers.
Hi Bill,
I love it when you start spinning out stories. Well done, my friend.
Hope you have a wonderful week.
This has been a great read, Bill! You really nailed it this week!
Coincidently, this was another fitting tribute, as this past Friday (January 21) marked Robby Benson's birthday! Yeah, that morning, my husband started off the day singing "Ode to Billy Joe" as a hint to me, so I could guess whose B-day it was. At first I guessed wrong with a Bobbie Gentry answer. He then proceeded to "skate" around the house in his socks, until I finally got it right! (Benson was Nick Peterson in Ice Castles.) During breakfast, we concluded our shindig with a heart-warming rendition of the The Beverly Hillbillies theme song, since Max Baer, Jr. (aka Jethro/Jethrine Bodine) directed Robby in Ode to Billy Joe. Ahhhh! How easily we entertain ourselves! (We also watched our cereal for cornflakes resembling Robby, but, heck, no such luck!)
Have a nice week, Bill!
A mystery here, well done Bill. I'll go read about Columbo, not sure who he is/was. I guess while I'm at it, I'll go see about the movie and the song too.
A tribute to the "Ode to Billie Joe" was such a great idea. Well done.
Ah, Columbo. Nice ones.
All good! I had forgotten those ! Thanks.
Not sure how i feel about that i knew exactly what you were referring/talking/writing about. LOL
Good take on this week's prompt.
a 3 parter and a whole story to boot! I'm with Samurai...I was around for the original version. Feeling old now.
I didn't know about the movie. I remember the song, though.
My thoughts exactly! LOL! :O)
Wow, great! I didn't think about using a song, nicely fitted, too!

Samurai ~ We know quality when we see it.
5th Sister ~ Had to make it a three parter to make it fit.

Di ~ It was a good song, glad you enjoyed.
Man Bill, these are good but sad... Everyone had sort of a dark view of the picture this week.
That's easy, Bill. You know that Billy Joe never had a lick of sense so keep on writing.
Oh yes, Child, why are you snooping around over there by the bridge and pickin' all those flowers?
..
Susan ~ It was a dark week for Microfiction. Glad that you enjoyed.
Jim ~ I heard that, thanks for stopping by.
